3924 Red Bird Lane is an excellent commute location to the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, Quantico or other locations in and around the Pentagon. We are close to I-95 and are served by the HOV lanes. The HOV lanes end about 4 miles south of Cardinal drive and the I-95 consistently backs up past the HI 234 exit (the exit after you get off of I-95 to get to the Cardinal Crest community). Since you exit before this backup, it saves you a considerable amount of time compared to locations just a few miles south of the Woodbridge/Dale City area. During the evening rush, it can take you an extra 30 to 45 minutes just to get the 12 miles further south to Stafford. Normal commute to the Pentagon door-to-door is 45 minutes. I normally slug from the Horner Road commuter lot. The lot is located at the corner of Prince William Parkway and I-95. It takes about 10 minutes to drive there and is a 30 minute ride to the Pentagon via non-stop bus service or Slugs. Our area is served by OmniRide commuter bus service. They have several buses that originate on Cardinal Drive, 3 blocks, in Montclair (1 mile), HI 234/I-95 (4 miles), Dale City (3 miles), and Horner Road (7 miles). More information on OmniRide is available at http://www.prtctransit.org. Schedules for our area are at http://www.prtctransit.org/omniride/schedules.php What is a Slug? The I-95 corridor is unique for a freelance carpool system. The HOV lanes require 3 persons to be in each car. Drivers pick up and drop off people at predetermined locations. The system works great and I personally used it every day. Best of all it is free! Riders get free rides, driver gets to use the HOV lanes and save valuable time.
